Weather
The Rocky Mountains experience extreme cold and heavy snows in the winter and in the summer temperatures are cooler and dryer than much of the country. In the winter the canyons will stay mild at about 15C while summers will be hot and dry.
Best time to visit
Winter may be vest avoided due to potential road closures due to snow but anytime from spring through to autumn is great. Avoiding the summer holidays will save you money on flights and also spare you the potentially intense heat in July / August.
Natural Beauty
The Canyons and the Rockies area is full of natural beauty from Yellowstone National Park to Grand Canyon to Arches National Park, Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon, Monument Valley, Grand Teton, Devils Tower, Glacier National Park, Rocky Mountain and much more.
Wildlife
There is an abundance of wildlife to see across the region but in particular in Yellowstone National Park where fauna is prolific. Over 60 species of mammals live in Yellowstone, 10 different types of amphibians and reptiles, and over 300 species of birds.
History
The Canyons and the Rockies area offers incredible history from the ruins of the great pueblos in Canyon de Chelly, Chaco Canyon and Mesa Verde to the thriving culture in communities still inhabited, like Taos Pueblo in Taos, New Mexico.
