Alaska is America’s largest state – it’s more than twice the size of Texas! Alaska’s capital is Juneau, but it’s largest city is Anchorage – a great starting point for most Alaskan holidays. The state’s nickname is ‘The Last Frontier’. and the state motto is “North to the Future”.

Weather

Over a third of all visitors find the weather better than expected. During the summer, average daytime temperatures throughout the state range from the 60s to the 90s.

Best time to visit

Alaska is best visited from mid-June to mid-September due to the state’s northernly latitude. In the summer months the warm weather is complimented by Alaska’s abundance of wildlife including whales, bears, seals, sea otters and much more.

Glaciers

There are more active glaciers and ice fields in Alaska than in the rest of the inhabited world. The largest glacier, the Malaspina, is 850sq/m.

Volcanoes

There are more than 70 potentially active volcanoes in Alaska! Most active volcanoes in Alaska are found along Cook Inlet and through the Aleutian Islands. Inactive volcanoes that haven’t erupted for hundreds of years can be found all over the state.

Mountains

17 of the 20 highest peaks in the USA are in Alaska. Denali, the highest peak in North America, is 20,320 ft. above sea level.
