Case Study - Jaguar Owners Club - Route 66
In 2008 we organised a fabulous trip for 130 members of a local car enthusiasts club to drive ‘Route 66’ from Chicago to Los Angeles in their own cars shipped from the UK.
In total 60 cars were shipped from Southampton to the East of the USA and transported by rail to Chicago awaiting for their owners to arrive to reclaim their ‘pride and joy’ and polish furiously!!
Following several meetings in advance of the tour with the party leaders, we fine tuned the trip to meet budgets, driving route and details such as the requirement for security guards for each car park, types of car for mechanics and accompanying travel documentation.
Here at Complete North America we arranged every element of the ‘Route 66 Tour’ for the group starting with flights from the UK plus, wherever required, regional connecting flights and each passenger was able to choose their preferred class of air travel from Economy class through to Business Class services with a choice of airlines to suit individual requirements.
The group were met in Chicago by our own team, who remained with the group every step of the way, and everyone was quickly whisked off to their first hotel in Chicago by coach and after a refreshing welcome drink and collecting their room keys at a private check-in desk the adventure began.
The tour lasted a total of 17 nights, and at each hotel our representatives arrived in advance to collate the room keys and check the parking facilities and local amenities in preparation for the group arriving throughout the day, resulting in the drivers and their passengers being able to bypass the check-in desk and relax in their rooms as quickly as possible after a long day on the road.
Several group meals, helicopter excursions, evening tours, day trips were organised for the group in advance to ensure that everyone could concentrate on what they enjoyed best – driving their historic car, seeing the sights and socializing with their fellow drivers.
All but one of the cars made the 2500 miles trip to Santa Monica Pier, the official end of Route 66, for a glass of Champagne and a final night Gala ‘Western Theme’ Meal was enjoyed by all, the group sharing stories of their amazing journey, breakdowns ‘n’ all!!!
The cars were transported to the holding depot the following morning and their drivers and passengers transported to the airport in good time for their flights home, the entire tour proved to be an enormous success which operated without a single hitch.
This is typical of the service we provide for all of our groups from the original briefing either at our offices or at a suitable local venue, tour planning, travel documentation, reservations, escorting/tour management, excursions, sight-seeing, and tour personalisation/souvenirs e.g. t-shirts, ticket wallets, luggage labels etc.
