up to 10 high class golf courses in 14 days with green fees included.
Enjoy the warm southern sunshine and legendary deep south hospitality
on the ultimate USA golfing fly drive package.
Introduction
Have the golf experience of a lifetime! The New York
Times calls it “some of the best public golf on Earth!”
Play all 10 courses, each a unique challenge. Enjoy the warm sunshine
with weather in the 60s by March and summer days an average in
the low 80s. Welcome to the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail, 10
premier golf courses throughout Alabama carefully designed by
legendary course architect Robert Trent Jones to “partake
of the natural topography.” All of the courses are complemented
with elegant lodging to complement your great golf experience.
Standard accommodations are also available.
Dr. David Bonner, the genius behind the Robert Trent Jones Golf
Trail wanted a trail that would stand the test of time and post
major tests of golf for years to come. “No one talks about
or remembers the easy courses. What lodges in the mind is the
one brilliant shot that (momentarily) conquers a tough hole.”
If anyone in your party doesn’t elect to play golf on some
or all of the days, there is a myriad of things to see and do
at each of the destinations. Or they can just choose to relax
at the spa or the pool.
If you don’t have the time to play all 10 courses on one
trip, select the locations you want to include and we’ll
customize a trip to specifically suit your needs. You also have
the flexibility to choose the season in which you want to take
your trip since these courses can be played year round. Winter
generally requires only a sweater or light jacket to be comfortable.
Come to Alabama to enjoy this once in a lifetime experience.

Welcome to Atlanta, capital of the New South. The impressive
gold dome of the Georgia state capital now presides over a contemporary
city, the fastest growing new center for young professionals and
multicultural residents in the country. You can still find glimpses
of the Old South, but they are greatly overshadowed by sophisticated
shopping, great art museums, the CNN Center, the Olympic complex
and major league sports. If there’s time this afternoon,
take the Inside CNN Atlanta Studio Tour to watch the anchors and
producers who changed how news is broadcast around the world.
Explore a bit of Buckhead, with some of the most luxurious shopping
around Lenox Square, before for trying some of the great food
the south is famous for.

well positioned to play golf tomorrow morning.

|
| Day 3 |
Huntsville
- Muscle Shoals – 69 miles / 1 hour 20 minutes
Today you’ll have your first tremendous golf experience
on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Hampton Cove. The 18-hole
River Course is the only Robert Trent Jones layout without a single
bunker. It was built the way courses were done long ago —
the dirt merely pushed up to create the greens and the tees, leaving
all else, including the massive oak trees, as is.
Huntsville is also home to the Alabama Constitution Village,
Burritt on the Mountain Living Museum, Cathedral Caverns and the
not to be missed, US Space and Rocket Center, where you can see
the space shuttle program up close and personal.
Late this afternoon, take the short drive to Muscle Shoals to
be in place to play the Fighting Joe course in the morning.
Standard accommodations: Best Western Fairwinds Inn,
Muscle Shoals
Deluxe accommodations: Marriott Shoals Hotel and Spa
|
| Day 4 |
Muscle
Shoals – Birmingham / 112 miles / 2 hours
Southerners always love a good story and the The Shoals certainly
has one. The Fighting Joe course was named after General Joseph
“Fighting Joe” Wheeler, the only Confederate General
to attain the same rank later in the United States Army. General
Wheeler’s intense desire to show that Southerners could
be counted on as citizens of the US prompted him to volunteer
at the age of 62 for service in the Spanish-American War. Going
the distance, the Fighting Joe course was the first to break 8,000
yards. The 18th hole overlooking Wilson lake could distract you
with its beauty.
The Muscle Shoals/Florence Alabama area is also home to 12 different
themed trails ranging from Arts and Culture, the Civil War and
Spas and Fitness locations to Outdoor Recreation. Enjoy which
ever theme you select to explore and then head for Birmingham.
Standard accommodations: Best Western Mountain Brook
Deluxe accommodations: Renaissance Ross Bridge Golf Resort
|
| Day 5 |
Birmingham
Staying in Birmingham for two nights will give you a break from
driving and allow you to play two great golf courses located just
two miles apart. Sculpted from the peaks and valleys of the Appalachians,
the Ridge Course at Oxmoor Valley has scenic forests, numerous
creeks and challenging elevation changes. The Par 5 12th hole
is buttressed with a shelf of exposed shale rock excavated when
this area was mined.
|
| Day 6 |
Birmingham
– Montgomery – 91 miles / 1 hour 30 minutes
The Ross Bridge Golf Course at Hoover, right outside of Birmingham,
designed for tournament play, stretches across 8,200 yards spread
over 330 acres, meandering around the Ross Bridge Golf Resort
and Spa. Ten holes play along the banks of two man made lakes
connected by a spectacular waterfall dropping 80 feet between
the 9th and 18th greens. A gristmill added to the waterfall reflects
the history of this old mining site. Golf at its absolute finest.
Birmingham is also home to a diverse collection of attractions
ranging from the Talladega Speedway and the Birmingham Civil Rights
Institute to the Birmingham Museum of Art, one of the largest
in the southeast and locations on the Hank Williams Trail.
Standard accommodations: Best Western Hope Hull Montgomery
Deluxe accommodations: Marriott Prattville Hotel and Conference
Center/Capitol Hill
|
| Day 7 |
Prattville
The Capitol Hill at Prattville, the site of your next golf experience,
is right outside of Montgomery. The Judge course offers stunning
views alongside the 200 acre glistening backwaters of the Alabama
River. The first tee lies 200 feet above the fairway overlooking
the Alabama River and the Montgomery skyline. With 14 holes adjoining
the water and a stunning bulkhead island green, the Judge is described
as simply magnificent.
Montgomery, the capital of Alabama, is filled with attractions
ranging from Civil Rights to Hank Williams and the Civil War and
everything in between.
|
| Day 8 |
Montgomery
- Greenville – 45 miles / 45 minutes
You have two options to play the Cambrian Ridge course in Greenville
today. You can either stay another night in Montgomery since Greenville
is only a 45 minute drive away, or plan to spend the night in
a lovely Bed and Breakfast in the Greenville area. At Cambrian
Ridge, the Canyon nine was carved from a former hunting preserve
starts with a 501 yard par four that drops 200 feet from tee to
fairway. The Sherling nine was named by Golf Digest as the third
best public course in America in 1994.
Standard accommodations: Best Western Inn Greenville
Deluxe accommodations: Camellia House Bed and Breakfast
|
| Day 9 |
Greenville
- Mobile – 126 miles / 2 hours
Today you’ll be heading to the deepest of the Deep South
in Mobile where you can count on moss-draped live oaks and the
sweet smell of magnolia blossoms. Since you will be staying in
Mobile more than one night, you can take time off from golf and
enjoy the wonderful gulf shores area. When you do get to playing
golf, Mobile is considered one of the ten best areas in the country
by Golf Digest to play year round.
Founded in 1702 as the original capital of the Louisiana Territory,
few cities can boast such rich history Mobile. Fortunately all
of it survived Hurricane Katrina well. Remember when you talk
to the locals that the city’s name is “Mo-beel”
given the soft emphasis on the second syllable by its French founders.
Having lived under six different flags, culture, “cul-cha,”
as they call it here, is a rich conglomeration of influences.
Try the goodies of Tiny Diny, the tallest meringue on their coconut
cream pie, Pollman’s Bake Shop Brownies or Three Georges
chocolates. Bailey’s Restaurant invented the West Indies
Salad and Wintzell’s Oyster House has been serving them
“fried, stewed or nude” since 1928. Fort Conde, right
next to the tourism bureau is a must see, along with Bellingrath
Gardens.
Standard accommodations: Best Western Battleship Inn
Deluxe accommodations: The Renaissance Battle House Hotel
|
| Day 10 |
Mobile
The Falls Course at Magnolia Grove with large, liberally contoured
greens and massive cloverleaf bunkers. On the 10th, a 570-yard
par five and possibly the best strategic hole in the course,
a waterfall cascades across stairsteps just beneath a contoured
green that falls eight feet from front to back.
This afternoon or tomorrow morning before leaving Mobile, we
suggest taking one of the five boat tours available in Mobile.
Each boat tour provides relaxing and informative sightseeing
and discovery cruises. Swamp tours offer a view of the unique
natural resources of the Mobile-Tensaw Delta, where you can
learn about the more than 250 species of birds, 230 species
of fish, alligator, bald eagle, black bear, and other wildlife
inhabiting this mystical area. The "Southern Belle",
docked at Bellingrath Gardens and Home provides a 45-minute
scenic cruise of the Fowl River and its abundant wildlife. On
the Delta Explorer located at Blakeley State Park, you can experience
the Delta in a covered eco-tour boat, complete with bench seating
and rest room facility. The Airboat Express explores Mobile
Bay and the Tensaw River Delta. Wildland Expedition's "Gator
Bait" tour shoves off from the Chickasaw Marina, where
Captain Gene Burrell takes you miles into the swamps of Mobile
Bay and the river delta in a secure motor-driven pirogue. Burrell
is an expert who enlightens, entertains and introduces you to
the myriad of birds, fish, mammals and a few of his "gator
friends" who inhabit the area.
|
| Day 11 |
Mobile – Dothan – 197 miles / 3 hours
20 minutes
Relax in Mobile this morning. When you’re ready, make
the drive to Dothan to be in place to well positioned to play
Highland Oaks in the morning.
Standard accommodations: Best Western Dothan Inn and
Suites
Deluxe accommodations: Sweet Gun Bottom Bed & Breakfast
|
| Day 12 |
Dothan – Auburn – 119 miles / 2 hours
35 minutes
At Highland Oaks in Dothan, you’ll be playing one of
the less played courses in the system, even though it features
some of the longest and most classically designed holes on the
Trail. The Marshwood nine has a mammoth par five sixth hole.
Specimen magnolia trees dot the Magnolia nine which is reached
by a 1,000 foot bridge spanning a marsh filled with lichen dappled
trees.
Dothan was also the home of Dr. George Washington Carver, the
famous scientist and botanist who is responsible for the economic
growth of agriculture in the south after the Civil War through
diversification of crops beyond cotton. From Dothan, you’ll
be traveling north to Auburn this afternoon.
Standard accommodations: Best Western Auburn University
Convention Center
Deluxe accommodations: Auburn Marriott Opelika Hotel and Conference
Center at Grand National
|
| Day 13 |
Auburn – Anniston – 95 miles / 2
hours 15 minutes
Robert Trent Jones considered the site of the Grand National
course in Auburn the single greatest site for a golf complex
he had ever seen. You’ll be playing the Links Course where
32 of the 54 holes are right on the lakeshore. This course is
considered by golfers to be without a single weakness.
Auburn is also home to the famous Auburn University, where
visitors can tour the Julie Collins Smith Museum of Art and
the Donald E. Davis Arboretum and browse the historic downtown.
When you’re ready take the short drive to Anniston to
be positioned for your final day of golf.
Standard accommodations: Best Western Gadsen Hotel

|
| Day 14 |
Anniston – Atlanta – 88 miles / 1
hour 30 minutes
Your last day of golf may be your most scenic. Silver Lakes
sits at the edge of the Talladega National Forest against the
foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. The Heartbreaker is
considered the most challenging nine on the Trail when played
from the championship tees. The Backbreaker boasts beautiful
views of the Appalachian mountain foothills. From Anniston this
afternoon, it’s on to Atlanta.
Standard accommodations: BW Hotel and
Suites Airport South
